Background
The owners of this detached property wanted to renovate their home and open up the rear elevation to make the most of the far-reaching views. The plans included modernising the interiors, adding an orangery style extension and replacing the existing windows and doors, while also retaining the homes traditional character and aesthetic.
The homeowners visited the Grand Designs Live exhibition in London and having viewed our products and collected our brochures they decided to visit our showroom in Weybridge in Surrey. Our two floor Surrey showroom provided all the answers they were looking for, and they were delighted to find a quality company who could survey, manufacture and install the bespoke doors, windows, glass roofs and upper floor balustrades for their large renovation project.
What we delivered
We carried out an in-depth survey of the property and produced a large amount of bespoke glazed products that were installed throughout the whole house. This included replacing the existing windows and providing new bi-fold and sliding doors, a roof lantern and tilt and turn windows for the newly constructed openings.
The new addition to the property is an orangery style extension, which has created a huge, open plan kitchen and living area. Central to the extension is a huge XP Glide triple track sliding door. The patio door spans six metres in width containing two slender 20mm sightlines to effectively create a glass wall to soak in the outward farmland views.
The returns of the extension are made up of two panoramic picture windows, with a large roof lantern overhead to create a light filled and contemporary space dominated by large format glazing.
Floor to ceiling glass has been incorporated into the existing house with new openings created in the adjacent dining room and the snug piano room. Knocking through the back of the house has allowed the homeowners to replace the traditional windows with modern and tall bi-folding doors. The doors look stunning when closed with large glass panels making the room feel big, bright and modern with the great functionality of not only a stand-alone back door, but the ability to completely open the room up to the garden.
Like our sliding doors and windows in the orangery extension, the tall and slim aluminium profiles of the bi-fold doors modernise the interiors by creating a feature within the space, allowing the natural light to pour and picture framing the beautiful woodland views.
The master bedroom contains two full height tilt and turn windows which allows the homeowners to enjoy the wonderful views while upstairs also.
Our tilt and turn windows are perfect for bedrooms as they tilt inwards for much needed ventilation and they also swing inwards to open completely, just like a set of French doors.
We have integrated our frameless balustrade into the window system so the homeowners can benefit from a Juliet balcony that acts as a safety barrier but can barely be seen from the inside or outside. Installed at the same time as the window, a unique and frameless balustrade that provides the perfect solution for upper floor full height glazing and integrates perfectly with our door and windows.
We installed new windows throughout the property and replaced all the existing windows to create a consistent look throughout. Our flush sash and outer frame casement windows look great from the outside, while the slim sightlines and clean lines look modern and sleek from the inside.
The front elevation is much more traditional than the rear with brick arched heads sitting above the ground floor windows. We installed half moon pressings above the windows, scribed perfectly to fit within the arched heads to retain the homes classic aesthetic.
The products installed throughout the property are all powder coated to RAL 7016 anthracite grey, the remaining sizes and specifications are detailed below.
This project is a great example of how installing modern products into traditional homes will create fantastic contemporary results. The whole project has been carried out wonderfully with the home still feeling warm with a timeless design.
The exterior of the home has retained its traditional charm thanks to the timber beams, tiled roof and arched heads but the new windows will ensure the home feels warm and secure. The rear extension is a testament to the quality of the design and the building contractors. The newly formed openings for the fully height windows, bi-fold doors and orangery extension look like they’ve always been there, seamlessly integrated into the main house and timber garage.
The interiors though are transformed, the renovation has opened the whole house, large open plan interiors that are bathed in natural light. The space is as flexible as it is functional with the sliding and bi-folding doors across the rear allowing the house to flow out to the garden, creating a seamless transition from inside to out.
Full height doors and windows have been positioned superbly within the master bedroom and across the rear elevation and orangery returns, providing modern full height glazing that make the most of the natural light and the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside.
The completed home showcases the versatility of our products and services. Our casement windows have replaced the existing windows within the farmhouse yet retained the traditional look of the property.
We also installed the new products needed for the new extension including the feature sliding and bi-fold doors, the niche balustrade products, a glass roof and the statement front door. Whether you are renovating, extending or building from new we can supply all the bespoke products needed for any project, from the front door through to every glazing requirement throughout the house.
