Windows that are anything but square

Through our years of experience & the engineering excellence in our production facility we can offer a range of shaped windows to add a real distinctive feature to your property. Shaped windows, apex windows, gable windows, regardless of the terminology triangular windows will add a real design statement to your home that will look stunning from both inside & out.

Gable end windows

The pitch of a roof is often triangular so we can follow the pitch to create striking gable end windows that will pour natural light into what otherwise would be a dark & closed off space. Apex windows can be designed into your home whether used to create a modern rear elevation or utilised on the front elevation also to create a modern appearance or a main feature like dramatic entrance atrium.

Glass extensions

Shaped windows are perfect as the fundamental design of modern extensions. With such an extensive product portfolio we can make shaped windows from our Horizon window range or use aluminium curtain walling to create huge panoramic windows that dominate the house exterior & the interior space.

Aluminium pressings

Shaped windows are often positioned about our door & window products fixed to the structural steels that separate the individual products. In these instances, we commonly install the door & shaped window above & then after installation measure bespoke, insulated aluminium pressings to cover all the visible structural supports.

The time frame for having the bespoke pressings manufactured is around four weeks & then our expert team will return to site to install the brand-new & tailor-made pressings, which will give a beautiful & cohesive look to your shaped window installation.

Shaped feature windows

Our showrooms all display shaped windows in various applications. We can make shaped windows to sit underneath our glass roofs & shaped windows sit sit above our bi-folding & sliding doors. Full height glazing that runs right up to the underside if the house ridge is another popular solution that we can offer with our Horizon window range. We can include opening sashes within large shaped windows either through our Scenic casement windows or tilt & turn windows that open inwards. We use specialist aluminium  curtain-walling screens for extremely large windows such as entrance atriums or panoramic glazing that spans several floors.

Shaped windows FAQ's

Can you place a ‘Shaped Frame or 'shaped window’ above a ‘Sliding’ or ‘Bi Folding Door’ without additional support?

A ‘Box Section’ or ‘I Beam’ steel will need to be placed at the head of the door by your building contractor. This will support the weight of the shaped window itself and will give us a solid fixing point for the door head. This in turn can then then be clad with colour coded ‘Insulated Aluminium Pressings’ to stop any thermal bridging. Our experienced representatives will be able to outline this requirement in more detail for you. The purpose of this beam is to simply hold the weight of the shaped frame as the product below is not suitable to support this weight.

Is it possible to have the ‘Mullion Detail’ within a ‘Shaped Frame’ line through with the door or window below?

In the overwhelming number of cases this is possible, however there is the potential for mis alignment when a two, four or six section bifold is installed below a shaped window. In this instance the door would need to part in the centre for ‘Best Alignment’. Our experienced representatives will be able to outline this in more detail for you, provide illustrative drawings & discuss alternative solutions if required.

Can a ‘Shaped window’ have an ‘Opening Window’ within it?

An opening window vent can only be introduced into a ‘Shaped Frame’ by incorporating a ‘Square’ or ‘Rectangular’ opening section into the shaped window design. Essentially if the glazed element is ‘Angled’ then this would need to be ‘Fixed’ as we do not offer shaped opening windows. Our experienced representatives will be able to outline this in more detail for you and discuss alternative solutions if required

Is there a limit to the size of a ‘Shaped Window’ or ‘Shaped Glass’?

Shaped windows can by their very nature come in an array of differing designs. Factors that can limit feasibility include ‘Acute Angles’, ‘Height and Location’, ‘Glass Type’ and ‘Glass Size Limitations’ ‘Lifting Gear Requirements’ or any combination of these factors. We would recommend contacting us to discuss any queries or concerns early in the design process so that we can advise on the best way forward.

Can we have ‘Integral Blinds’ installed in our ‘Shaped Window’?

We don’t offer a blind product or solution that can be integrated into a ‘Shaped Window’. Specialist ‘Third Party’ manufacturers of blinds and shading systems can often help.

Are there any limitations relating to the frame ‘Angles’ that can be achieved?

The minimum angle at which our ‘Shaped Frames’ can be mitred is 25 Degree’s, if the angle is 25 degrees or more than a pointed corner can be achieved.

What is the solution if the angle for my shaped window is less than 25 degrees

If the angle is less than 25 degrees then a 100mm aluminium pressing is required. We'll reduce the size of the window by 100mm so we can create a 25 degree angle for the window and the remaining part of the aperture will be covered by an insulated aluminium pressing made to suit the narrow angle. Our representatives will provide a visual drawing of this finishing detail.

Can I have a ‘Curved Head’ to my ‘Shaped Frame’?

We don’t offer or manufacture ‘Curved / Radius’ Thermally Broken Aluminium Frames.

Who specifies the size of any required steels?

Any steel beam dimensions & calculations are to be determined by the client/builder/structural engineer. We will provide the weights of our products but it is not our responsibility to calculate your structural requirements.
