Background
The owners of this West Yorkshire property wanted to extend their home by adding a rear extension and another bedroom above the existing garage. They also intended to carry out a full renovation to modernise the home throughout. They commissioned a local architect who laid down plans to extend and update the property including a feature glass link to connect the home with the garage and the new extension.
The decision to use Express was an easy one because the architect recommended our products and the homeowners were already well aware of Express due to some of the neighbouring homes that we’ve transformed, so they were happy to follow the architects recommendation and visited our Leeds showroom on several occasions to help bring the architects plans to life. Our Leeds showroom is the ideal destination for anyone looking to carry out a full house renovation and it was from visiting our showroom and meeting with the team that the homeowners chose the doors and windows for every room in the house.
Premium entrance door
We offer a range of entrance doors including classic styles through to ultra-modern, all of which are available at different price points. Our premium range, along with our pivot doors is our leading offering and the homeowners fell in love with the solid and distinctive Bentano design.
Our premium doors are strong and solid, which is why they opted for a sidelight to allow natural light into their interiors, which benefit from the modern slab door with concealed hinges that looks great while keeping their home safe and secure.
Scenic casement windows
Our casement windows are ideal for replacement installations or new-builds and extensions. They offer slim sightlines, clean lines and the sash sits completely flush with the outer frame for a modern aesthetic. Internally the sightlines are so slim that the handle sits within the glazing bead ensuring that the interiors benefit from maximum natural light and maximised outward views.
Our casement windows are secured by design accredited and incredibly thermally efficient, so the homeowners can be rest assured that not only do their windows look fantastic, but they bring real functional and security benefits also.
Glazed link
Thanks to the clever design of the architect the glazed link was quite simple for us to do. On the front elevation we used our horizon window system to install two elements of fixed, floor to ceiling glass with the frames concealed externally by the house render.
On the rear elevation the link spans two floors so we installed a glass curtain-wall screen to mirror the glazing on the front elevation to create a light-well straight through the house.
XP Glide sliding doors
The rear of this property benefits from beautiful and far-reaching views so sliding doors were the obvious choice to make the most of the property’s location. We installed twin track sliding doors in the snug area, living room and the new open plan kitchen and living area with a triple track sliding door in the master bedroom above also.
The minimal sightline sliding doors maintain an open airy feel internally while allowing the space to flow out onto the raised external patio area.
Open plan and outdoor living
The design of the space is themed around open connection with three sets of rear sliding doors all opening out onto a large patio area that leads down to the garden. Enthused with their new outdoor space the homeowners returned to our sister company Exterior Spaces to purchase a new bioclimatic pergola that is connected to the house wall and screens off the outside space from the neighbours.
The pergola acts as a further extension of the home and ensures that their outside space can now be used and enjoyed throughout the year. Pergolas from Exterior Spaces are completely bespoke, displayed in our Leeds showroom and available across Yorkshire and the North of England.
Full house solutions
We surveyed, manufactured, and installed all the doors and windows for this revamped property from front to back. The RAL colour used throughout is 9006 White Aluminium in a hard wearing textured finish, the additional details, sizes and specifications of the products used are detailed below.
A well-executed home renovation
The finished results are superb; the front elevation looks fresh and modernised but in keeping with the rest of the street. The rear elevation follows the same theme; the main house has been upgraded by our aluminium windows and pergola, while the new extension is unique and distinctive.
It is internally however where the benefits are truly felt, the whole space is bathed in natural light and benefits from large windows or floor-to-ceiling glass throughout. The master bedroom feels like a luxury suite in a countryside retreat and the open plan kitchen is bright and warm, the perfect setting for relaxing or entertaining.
Open Plan design Combined with Outdoor Living
Outdoor living is a key element of the design, and this has been wonderfully achieved on the rear elevation with the ground floor rooms all connected by the raised patio. The master bedroom benefits from a balcony area, a true touch of luxury that can be enjoyed first thing in the morning and the last thing at night. A wonderfully executed project that has significantly increased the homes value while creating a fantastic family home that can be enjoyed for many years to come.
