What are lift & slide doors?
Lift and slide doors are still patio doors but rather than all the weight of the glass sitting directly on the rollers, a simple rotation of the ‘lift and slide’ handle elevates the glass away from the rollers making each panel much lighter to slide.
The same gearing also drops down to secure the rollers in place meaning that lift and slide doors can be locked in an open position to allow ventilation into a property.
Lift and slide doors are extremely popular with families with young children as locking it open means no worries about kids trapping their fingers and the lift and slide options is also popular with elderly homeowners as the doors are very light to slide, even with
02
What are triple track sliding doors?
Triple track doors as the name implies generally have three panels and essentially have a deeper outer frame that allows for a second guide rail for two panels to slide behind the third fixed panel. Six panel sliding doors operate using the same principles with six panel doors installed onto a triple track system, opening from the middle with two panels sliding to the left and two panels sliding to the right.
The main benefit to a customer is that a triple track set up does allow a wider 66% clear opening as opposed to the 50% achieved with twin track doors.
03
What are twin track sliding doors?
Twin track sliding doors are generally made up of two or four panels. Two panel doors usually have one panel fixed and one sliding door that slides along the track to sit behind the fixed panel. Four panels are typically installed onto a twin track system also, with two outer panels fixed and the middle two panels sliding left or right.
Twin track doors only allow for a 50% clear opening but also fewer vertical bars breaking up the view, a two-panel door for example will simply have one vertical piece of aluminium between two large panes of glass.

Which doors have the slimmest sightlines?
Our XP Glide system has the slimmest sightline at just 20mm.
Our XP Slide Panoramic + has a narrow sightline of 25mm plus an outer frame that is designed to be fully concealed by the building so has an extremely slim profile to glass ratio.
Both are great options for slim sightline sliding doors, with the XP Glide being our most popular option because its more cost effective and doesn’t need designing into a building at an early stage.
Each of our sliding glass doors is available in our full palette of colours and finishes and a choice of handles from subtle to feature stainless steel. Our sleek patio doors in black and grey aluminium sliding patio doors are some of our most popular, boasting a contemporary yet timeless appearance that will elevate the look of your property, while flooding it with natural light.
TRACK OPTIONS
Whether you’re maximising light with sleek minimalism or creating a grand entrance with wide openings, our Twin and Triple Track sliding systems are designed to meet a variety of architectural needs.
A clear benefit of sliding doors is how the large glass panels and minimal sightlines really create a clear connection between a home and garden.

Keeping it real, with the recent bad weather we’ve found three leaks in the roof. Which is really testing our patience, budgets and time frames. But we press on…

It’s taken seven months to get here, and this week with the back wall being tiled we took the opportunity to complete the smaller, unfinished jobs that have surprisingly made a huge difference to the overall aesthetic finish of the kitchen. Seven months of doubting if we were making the right decisions- from kitchen style, to worktop finish and paint colour- we were never wholly sure that we were doing the right thing! Seven months of being reliant on truly skilled and talented workmen who we trusted to bring our vision to life, feel as if they’ve all paid off! We got there in the end… never again 🙈 #kitchenrenovation #kitchenremodel #kitchendecor #kitcheninspiration #interiordesign #interiordecor #houserenovations #homerenovation #homereno #surreyhomes handmadekitchenschristchurch

At Express, we have been manufacturing and installing aluminium doors since our inception in 2007. Since then, we have constantly evolved our range and launched a new generation of four different industry-leading doors.
Every Express sliding patio door is manufactured in-house, installed by us, and comes with a 10-year guarantee.
We have five great sliding door products available:
Sliding doors have become a favourite among homeowners and designers alike in recent years, and it’s clear why they’re stealing the spotlight. Not only do these doors offer a fashionable aesthetic but they also flood homes with natural light, save precious space, and improve energy efficiency.
With industry-leading expertise since 2007, Express is here to guide you through the key factors to consider when investing in these beautifully practical doors.
If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, head over to our full FAQs or reach out to our customer support team for further assistance.
The cost of a sliding door depends on the door system you choose. A traditional sliding patio door is the most cost-effective option, with a starting price of under £4,000 for the installation of a new and bespoke door.
However larger doors with massive glass areas, and lift and slide doors with additional components will cost more, as will installations where four installers are needed to safely install the glass.
You can visit our individual product pages for more information on our door prices or request a quote directly.
Our slimmest sliding door is now the XP Glide. This system uses structural bonding for thinner panes and boasts a sightline of just 20mm. The XP Glide is available with a twin or triple track outer frame and is suitable for installations right across the UK.
For a more cost-effective option, we also offer the XP Slide 25, another slim framed external sliding glass door with an extremely slim sightline of just 25mm.
Absolutely! Because our patio doors are bespoke, we’ll precisely measure them, so the inside of the track sits flush with your internal floor level along with a track’s draining system.
This type of finishing detail is displayed within all our showrooms, and our expert staff will be able to provide help and assistance to you and your builder to ensure you achieve the finish you require.
The large increases in energy prices in recent years has had a big impact on the price of glass, causing glass prices to increase significantly across the whole industry.
Because our slim framed sliding doors contain so much glass, they’re now generally slightly more expensive than our bi-folding doors.
The price difference between a sliding door and a bi-folding door will always be a few hundred pounds, but because you’re going to use and enjoy the benefits of these products for years, it’s always best to choose the product needed for your home rather than trying to make a small saving.
We offer two types of patio sliding doors: sliding and lift and slide doors.
Lift and slide doors contain a mechanism within the gearing that lifts the door up slightly, making it easy to slide, as well as the option of locking it in any open position. Traditional sliding glass doors, on the other hand, don’t have this mechanism, so the weight is always directly on the steel rollers.
Sliding patio doors also tend to have much slimmer frames and sightlines, whereas lift and slide doors have chunkier frames. They’re popular amongst the elderly and families with busy households and children as the doors are easy to operate and can be locked open, which is ideal if the kids are running in and out. That said our cost effective lift and slide door the XP Slide LS25 is available on a twin track with a sightline of just 25mm, a great product that offers the benefits of a lift and slide door but with a real slim sightline.
Yes, but bigger doors come with size restrictions. Within the XP Glide and our lift and slide doors we can offer integral blinds in overall glass sizes up to 2.2m2 per panel. Electric blinds are also available within our twin-track lift and slide doors in glass sizes up to 5m2 per panel.
Size limitation is based on a height-to-width ratio, so we recommend keeping each glass panel under 5m2 so 6mm toughened glass can be used within the door. When 5m2 is exceeded, we have to use 8mm toughened glass, which makes the price jump considerably, as well as the weight of the glass within the door itself.
We do offer door products that can create huge sliding door panels, offering sliding doors as wide as six metres in two panels and up to eight metres in three panels, but we will limit the maximum height of these doors. We’ll also have to consider how we’ll get the glass to the site and how to install it safely.
Slim framed sliding doors will always feel heavier than our lift and slide equivalents because the weight is directly placed onto the sliding door runners. However, the quality of the running gears within our doors means they always slide with minimal effort, but once glass weights start approaching 200kg or you slide two panels at once, you can feel the weight.
The glass options within a sliding door selection are the same as what is available within windows and other door products, except that the glass itself often must be thicker.
Once a glazed area exceeds 2.4m2 the thickness of the glass itself must increase from 4mm thick to 6mm thick. The current demand for large expanses of glass and slender profiles means most aluminium sliding doors are fitted with 6mm toughened glass.
