Sliding Doors

Background

The homeowners of this sea front location decided to renovate their home whilst adding a large extension to the rear seaside elevation. They commissioned an architect to ensure that they would incorporate as much natural light into the property as possible, whilst designing the rear extension in a way that would make the most of their stunning ocean views. During consultations with their architect the homeowners visited our Glasgow showroom to examine our aluminium windows, which would eventually replace all the existing windows in the property, but also to look at our various expansive doors and windows which would play a crucial role in achieving their brief of maximising their rear ocean views.

What we delivered

We supplied the replacement windows throughout the home to upgrade the house front appearance whilst improving on the thermal efficiency and security of the outgoing windows. The slender frames of all our products ensured that natural light was increased throughout the property which included the installation of various fixed picture windows and two large roof lanterns.

Ocean views

The rear extension is where the benefits of our products are truly highlighted. Triple track sliding doors are the dominant feature in both the open plan kitchen and dining area, plus in the cosy snug upstairs. The system installed is our XP Glide sliding door, available with a sightline of just 20mm, we have instead used our 35mm interlock to offer increased weather resistance for this coastal location. The patio doors look stunning with just two slender 35mm bars framing the three glass panels, which look out directly to the infinite sea.

Marine grade powder coating

A crucial element to the longevity of this project is the marine grade powder coating that has been applied to all our aluminium products. The commercial application of the paint to our aluminium frames was specified specifically for this seafront location and during the manufacturing process all the mitres and joints were sealed with a marine grade treatment to prevent the salt air from attacking any of the joints within our doors, windows, and skylights. A site specific powder coating guarantee and maintenance instructions were then issued, which gives the homeowners the piece of mind that despite their coastal location the paintwork on their doors and windows is fully guaranteed. Feature Windows

Tilt and turn windows have been utilised in the rear extension as they allow for larger opening sashes than our casement windows. The large sashes can be tilted in for ventilation or open inwards completely as required. The flexibility of our Horizon window range has allowed to create shaped windows in the upper floor, one coupled next to the sliding door and the other to create a shaped feature window in the master bedroom. Slender sightlines, large glass panels, excellent weather ratings and matching sightlines throughout are just some of the benefits that our Horizon window range has bought to this stunning rear extension.

This home renovation is stunning. The extended property is now a modern open plan home bathed in natural light throughout. The distinctive double raked extension is dominated by feature glazing that allows the customers to bask in their amazing ocean views all year round. The superb design of the property ensures that the two floors connect seamlessly with the outside, the upper floor spills out onto the sheltered balcony area, whilst the open plan ground floor leads out to the garden via a raised decked area.

Internally the home feels connected to the sea with all the sociable rooms in the property keeping the ocean in constant view. The property is very much exposed to the elements so our doors and windows will keep the home warm, safe and secure during the colder months, whilst acting as the gateway to nature during the Spring through to late Summer.
