Background
The owners of this detached home wanted to extend, renovate, and completely overhaul the property to transform it into a modern luxury home. The ambitious plans included rendering the property to modernise the external fabric of the building and incorporating floor to ceiling glass throughout to create a constant connection between the home and beautifully landscaped gardens.
Indoor- outdoor living was a key focus of the designs with an external patio area raised to sit at the same level as the house with various bi-folding doors leading out onto it. The plans included a new front door along with new aluminium windows throughout including large picture windows to maximise the natural light coming into the property. The homeowners wanted one company to supply all the doors and windows for their project and after searching online made the journey to our impressive Glasgow showroom to see our products first hand. After meeting with our team and exploring our product range in detail the homeowners were delighted to choose Express, and the project took its first steps forward.
What we delivered
We carried out a survey of the project as the renovation works were well underway and clarified all the specifications prior to manufacturing the various bespoke doors and windows for the project. We worked alongside the contractors to carry out the installation in line with their timelines and used specific deeper profiles due to the house being rendered, the details of which are outlined below.
XP View bi-folding doors
Our XP View bi-fold door system is the highest specification bi-fold on the market. The system can offer folding panels up to 1500mm wide at heights in excess of three metres, despite having a slender sightline of just 90mm.
The various sets of bi-folding doors on this property aren’t overly wide, but all stand over 2500mm tall, which coupled with the slim sightlines means they look stunning when closed. The three panel set up means that each set has an everyday access door that can be used like a normal door and then when the weather allows all three panels can fold to one side to completely open up the space and create a seamless link between the open plan kitchen and the newly laid patio area.
Premium Entrance Doors
Our premium range of entrance doors are perfect for luxury homes like this. The doors are secured by design accredited, completely flush on the inside with no visible hinges and externally there are a range of distinctive designs to choose from including classic designs through to ultra-modern.
The design chosen here is the Arola design, a modern looking door with three glass inserts and decorative woodgrain veneers over four steel inlays. As the property isn’t overlooked the glass inserts are clear, as are the two glazed inserts.
Scenic casement windows
Our aluminium windows are perfect for the stringent building regulations across Scotland. The airtightness and thermal performance of the window will ensure that there is minimal heat loss through the windows, and the slender sightlines are ideally suited to this modern home.
Our Scenic range is flexible and versatile and because this house has been rendered in parts and cladded in others we used a deeper outer frame. This has allowed the render to sit over the outer frame meaning that the slim opening sashes don’t clash with the render, providing beautiful looking slim sightline windows with the outer frame concealed both internally and externally.
Fixed picture windows
Picture windows are simple, relatively inexpensive but so effective. Slender aluminium profiles concealed both internally and externally to reveal a statement piece of glass that will act as the standout feature in any room and look superb from the outside looking in.
Taking full advantage of the secluded location the picture windows in this property add to its contemporary aesthetic while flooding the interiors with natural light and framing the picturesque garden views.
Tilt and turn windows
Our tilt and turn windows are another flexible window system that we offer. The windows outer frame is the same profile as the picture windows and is perfect for making shaped windows also. Our tilt and turn windows are perfect for creating large opening windows, which rather than open outwards, tilt inwards for ventilation and can also swing inwards to open completely.
Another product offering slim sightlines, clean lines, and the ability to house large areas of glass.

A beautifully finished renovation
The completed renovation has been executed superbly. A crisp and modern home with flexible zones throughout and a clear and constant connection with the garden throughout the whole house.
The renovated home feels modern and distinctive, from the feature entrance through to the expertly placed picture windows and bi-fold doors. The home is light and bright, with large open place spaces that have all been designed to flow inside to out from the raised patio area.
The house sits within a beautifully landscaped garden and the home is now befitting of its surroundings, a beautiful luxury home that feels open in the summer and warm and homely in the winter. An expertly finished renovation and a great example of how our aluminium doors and windows can breathe new life into any home.
