Background

Back in 2017 the owners of this property decided they wanted to completely refurb their home & build a huge extension on the back of the house to create a better connection with the large rear garden. After commissioning an architect detailed plans were drawn up, which included replacing all the existing windows in the house, incorporating full height glazing across three floors of the rear elevation, building a large orangery style extension onto the back of the property, an extension to the side of the house plus creating a dominant feature to properties entrance. The brief also included retaining the character of the existing house with a traditional appearance at the front of the house, and a more clinical, modern appearance across the full rear elevation.

With a clear vision in mind the homeowners began searching for a company to fulfil all their glazing requirements. They wanted one company to manufacture all of the products in the UK, and to carry out the full installation themselves, their research led them to our impressive Romford showroom where our expert staff were able to assist in bringing their ambitious plans to realisation.

What we delivered

The front of the house benefits from our slim framed aluminium windows. Our casement windows have helped to retain the traditional look of the house by being installed directly into stone mullions. The traditional look is enhanced further by a unique leaded light design that has been used on all the glass across the front of the property.

Two curtain wall screens have been used to create feature glazing on the rear elevation, a ground floor picture window bathes the living area in natural light. The master bedroom benefits from a shaped glazed screen that houses a French door & sidelights that can instantly draw in the morning daylight creating an idyllic space to enjoy a morning coffee.

Full Height Glazing Above Ground Floor

Three of the bedrooms in this home contain full height French doors that open into the room, externally there is a Juliet balcony that acts as a safety barrier whist these doors are open. Full height glazing within bedrooms is becoming an increasingly popular feature in modern renovations and we now offer a unique built-in balustrade that seamlessly connects with our door and window products. Alleviating the need to use a third party to specify and install a safety balustrade for you, we can now install tilt and turn windows and French doors into your upper floor rooms complete with a colour matched, neat and tidy Juliet balcony.

You can see this innovative new product on display in all our showrooms.

The orangery extension is dominated by a huge four panel sliding door. The outer two panels remain fixed in position whilst the middle two panels can slide open to create a large 50% clear opening that leads directly out to the focal point fountain in the middle of the garden. The returns of the orangery contain large aluminium windows, whilst atop the flat roof sits a huge roof lantern. The stunning glass extension is main new addition to this house. The patio doors boast minimal frames that allow the connection between house and garden that was originally briefed to the architect before the project had even started.

Solar Control Glazing

The south facing rear elevation contains huge spans of glass, which in turn will result in solar heat gain throughout the property. To counter that all of the glazing throughout the rear elevation benefits from a solar control coating on the outer pane, which reduces the solar heat gain by as much as 80%, whilst still retaining a neutral appearance that allows light into the property.
