Living in Leeds: The 5 Best Things to Do

Lifestyle

Leeds is a vibrant city set in the Yorkshire countryside, and it has lots to offer. From culture, arts and history to shopping, restaurants and attractions, as well as sporting events, Leeds is the unofficial capital of Yorkshire.

Here we explore some of the best things to do in our hometown

Belgrave Music Hall & Canteen

Housed in a building dating from the 1930s, this venue consists of two bars, two kitchens, an event space and a roof terrace. They host all sorts of events there, from burlesque nights, live music, food festivals and so much more. Offering pizzas and burgers from their live-in kitchens Dough Boys and Patty Smith’s, you’re never short of a bite to eat in there either!

Royal Armouries

A fantastic day out if you’re a history buff, the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds is a must-see. With a range of showpieces from across history, as well as daily activities and shows, ranging from horse shows to having a go at archery, the Royal Armouries is home to one of the most important collections of arms and armour. Best of all, it’s free to enter.

Thackray Medical Museum

An innovative and inspirational medical museum, it has lots to delight and discover. From germ theory, and antibiotics to surgery and medicine in combat, the museum covers a range of different angles on medicine and what life was like before modern medicine.

Currently going through a £4million refurbishment, the galleries, café and gift shop are now closed. However, when they reopen, they’ll have brand new displays to bring the museum up to date.

Only four miles from Leeds city centre, Rodley Nature Reserve is a manmade wetland that used to be a water treatment plant. The reserve has recorded 173 species of bird and 401 species of moth to date, boasting dragonfly ponds, bird hides and a visitor centre.
