The client was converting a traditional brick-built chapel into a modern family home. Dating from 1882, it was originally built with solid walls, gables and vaulted roofs supported on trusses and purlin framework. The new owners wanted to transform the chapel into a contemporary property, so we used our aluminium products to create a contrast to the old church building and make it feel like a modern home rather than an old chapel.
The conversion of the main chapel created a lounge and dining area at one end, with a kitchen at the other end. Above the kitchen, on a new mezzanine floor, is a bedroom and bathroom. The smaller side hall to the chapel, along with the extension provides a hallway, two further bedrooms, a bathroom and a utility room.
The client initially wanted arched windows, which isn’t something that we can offer so we produced angled windows and finished the windows both internally and externally with shaped pressings to suit the window arches.
The original rear porch and the rear extension were demolished and replaced with a new larger duo pitched roof extension.
