24 May Express Bi-Folds Donation to St. Gemma’s Hospice
Express Bi-Folds Donation to St. Gemma’s Hospice
We have donated four sets of bi-folds to St. Gemma’s Hospice. One set has replaced the existing doors in the Hospice's Academic Unit of Palliative Care (AUPC) lecture theatre, while the remainder open out on to the newly-created Memory Garden which provides a restful environment for patients and relatives at St. Gemma's.
Our glass suppliers Morley Glass & Glazing aided the donation by generously supplying high performance toughened double glazed units for all four bi folding doors free of charge.
The product and fitting costs would have set the Hospice back around £10,000; money that could be used as vital funding elsewhere. Professor Mike Bennett, Chair in Palliative Medicine at St Gemma's Hospice said, €œWe would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Express Bi-Folding Doors & Morley Glass for their extremely generous donation as part of the refurbishment of the AUPC. The new doors will greatly enhance the environment within the AUPC and the Memory garden, as well as assisting in the financial growth of the department for many years to come.€
The St Gemma's Hospice AUPC, in partnership with the University of Leeds, was established in March 2012. Led by Professor Mike Bennett, the unit is supported by staff whose vision is for the AUPC to be recognised internationally as an outstanding model for improving the care of those approaching the end of life, through integrated research, learning and teaching and evidence based clinical practice.
Steve Bromberg, Managing Director of Express said, €œSt Gemma's is an incredible facility with a special team who provide care and support to patients and their loved ones. As a family, we've experienced its benefits first-hand so it's a project especially close to our hearts. We're pleased to be able to contribute to their sterling work and hope they get a lot of enjoyment out of the new doors and the extra natural light.€
Within the AUPC, St Gemma's train internal and external staff and the facilities are also available for external hire to local groups and businesses who are looking for competitively priced conferencing space, with all profits being used to fund patient care.
Based in Moortown, Leeds, St Gemma's Hospice provides the best possible care and quality of life for local people with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. Care provided is free of charge to patients and their families so St Gemma’s relies on donations and local fundraising initiatives in the community.
